1. Who we are

VetMyCar is a used-car inspection and vehicle history app for buyers in the UK. This policy applies to our website at vetmycar.co.uk, our mobile apps, and any related services.

3. Our lawful basis for processing

Providing the service: performance of a contract — we need this data to give you the service.

Understanding usage patterns: legitimate interests — improving the app and understanding demand, in aggregated/pseudonymised form.

Marketing emails (if introduced): consent — always opt-in, never bundled with account creation.

4. How long we keep your data

Account data is kept while your account is active. Purchased vehicle history reports are kept indefinitely while your account is active, so you retain access to what you've paid for. Usage/analytics data is retained in aggregated or de-identified form after 12 months.

5. Who we share data with

  • DVSA (MOT History API) — receives the registration number you search, no account details.
  • Check Car Details — receives the registration/VIN for a purchased history check.
  • Stripe — processes payment; we never see your full card details.
  • Google Analytics — only if you accept our cookie banner; used to understand site traffic.

We do not share your data with data brokers or third parties for their own marketing purposes.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your data, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or withdraw consent at any time. Contact supportuniqueowl@gmail.com. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

7. Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on our database. Payment data is handled entirely by Stripe, which is PCI-DSS compliant.

8. Children

VetMyCar is intended for adults purchasing vehicles and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll post the updated version here with a new date, and notify you directly for material changes.
